With a Little Help From My Friends

I belong to an accountability group. There’s seven of us in the group and over the months we’ve become very close. The group shares our good days and bad days, our sad days and happy days, our struggles and our successes. No matter what we go through, the group is there for support. We don’t always agree but we’ve come to a place where we don’t have to. We’re in a safe space.

The journey to this group took years of searching. It started with Matthew 18:20 “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” I knew I wanted to be a part of a group that wasn’t just fellowship but was true accountability.  But most of the strong Christian women I knew were also the most time committed and they didn’t have the bandwidth to join a group that would demand a weekly time commitment. But as our small church grew, God brought other strong Christian women into my life who shared my desire for something more.

If you don’t have brothers and sisters to walk with you on life’s journey consider finding some. It doesn’t have to be “Christian”. It’s not about theology but transparency. It’s about being vulnerable with other people. It’s about making accountability to live our lives in the best way possible a priority in your life. Sometimes we get so busy, finding time for friends takes work. Let me tell you, it’s worth the time. We get back love and support, encouragement and accountability. If you’re interested in starting a group and want some ideas and lessons I’ve learned, reach out. I call the ladies in my group “my church ladies” and pray for them every night. And I know they’re praying for me. I know I’m loved, safe and growing, becoming the best version of me with their help.
