We live in scary times, but my God is greater than my fears.
Christ’s teachings are being rejected. We no longer want to feed the hungry, provide water to those who are thirsty, welcome the stranger, clothe those who have none, visit the sick or imprisoned (Matthew 25:31-46). We no longer see the blessings of the weak: the poor in spirit, those who mourn, the meek, those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, the merciful, the pure in heart (Matthew 5:3-8).
We reject those who simply want to exist in peace: the LGBTQ, the Muslim, the Hispanic, women and children.
We want our rights instead of other’s safety. We want guns regardless of the cost.
We claim to love life, but we don’t want to provide food for children or protection at school.
We fight vaccinations allowing illness to spread and even kill.
We ignore the pleas of our planet allowing climate change to worsen and bring chaos.
We want to be wealthy when so many live in poverty. We want manicured lawns and large homes while complaining about those who have nothing, who live on the streets instead of having a home of their own.
But my God is greater than hate. My God is greater than fear. My God is greater than misogyny. My God is greater than prejudice. My God is greater than poverty. My God is greater than injustice. My God is greater than sickness. My God is greater than anything the world throws at me.
John 16:33, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
