A Supreme Court draft ruling was recently leaked to the press. It points to Roe v Wade being overturned and abortion being made illegal. As a result, I received a text message from someone I love stating she had given up on our society and was considering joining a satanic temple. Think about it. Christianity has been so polluted even Satan looks better.
I can’t express the grief I feel at the direction Christianity is heading. So many scriptures speak of God’s love. My two favorites are Ephesians 3: 17b-19: “And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” And John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” This is not shallow love. This is deep love. This is forgiving love. One of my favorite songs is “They'll Know We Are Christians by Our Love” by Jars of Clay “And we'll guard each man's dignity and save each man's pride. And they'll know we are Christians by our love” Why has hate become how we’re known instead of love?
I am not advocating for abortions. I read an article about Christy Berghoef who describes herself as “broadly pro-life”. I am in favor of life but I also believe in the teachings from Matthew 25:34-40 “Then the king will say to those on his right, ‘Come, my Father has blessed you! Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat. I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger, and you took me into your home. I needed clothes, and you gave me something to wear. I was sick, and you took care of me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’ In the world of Facebook, I recently wrote the following words: “Are you going to pay for childcare? Are you going to pay a living wage so they don’t end up on the street? Are you going to pay for therapy needed for a woman who’s been raped? Are you going to provide support for those born with disabilities or fetal alcohol syndrome? Are you going to do more than just saving the life of an infant but saving the life of all society?”
I hesitated to even write those words. I didn’t want to be seen as “political”. I feared the wrath of my “Christian” friends. But the bible also says in 2 Timothy 1:7-10 “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me his prisoner. But join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God, who has saved us and called us to a holy life--not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.”
True followers of Christ, let us boldly speak of God’s love not His hate. Let us preach forgiveness not condemnation. Let us reconcile not be divided. Let us take care of the souls who are alive and not just those who have not yet entered this world. Let us not just fight a battle over abortion let us win the war against Satan and hatred and show what Christ has done. Share the love and forgiveness He offers. Let us stand up by the power of God to speak the truth, not in political soundbites but in truth and mercy. God loves all of us. Let THAT be the message that Christians are known by!
